This Avatar B410 features four Custom Eminence Deltalite II 2510 250w 10’s with black carpet and metal grill. 4×16 ohm wired all parallel for 1000w 4 ohm cab. (the used one is 8ohm, not 4ohm) Found one used for $100 but it's an 8ohm cab not 4ohm. B410 DeltaLite II SPECIAL – Avatar Speakers Would a 500w 4ohm amp fit my needs? Like a Peavy minimax? Or a TC Electronic Thrust BQ500? Other thoughts/ideas? Thank you. Amps and Cabs seem to be a very complicated subject.
I would suggest going ahead and buying an amp that you won't want to replace in 6 months. Mesa D800 Quilter Bass Block 800 Genzler Magellan 800 I would lean towards the Mesa because...well...it's Mesa! And it's 2 ohm stable so you can add a 2nd cab if you need to.
The whole RMS thing confuses me. I hear that the Mesa has 400W RMS at 8 ohms. How will that play into a cab that is a 1000watt 8 ohms?
It's used and it appears to be similar to this one but it's 8oms not 4oms B410 DeltaLite II SPECIAL – Avatar Speakers Or would it be better to get a smaller amp?
The cab doesn't need 1000 watts it will just be able to take it . It should be able to handle all the power at 8 ohms that the Mesa can put out . What is more important is how sensitive the Avatar cabinet is or how much SPL it will put out for 1 watt RMS . Any of the amps you have mentioned will be fine with that cab . The best thing to do is try a few and see what one you like the tone of .
And as follow up, just like that there are a couple WD-800 Mesa heads in the classified here. Figured some would pop up with their new model launch.
So if I get the Mesa with 800 watts at 4 ohms. Will that hurt an 8-ohm amp at 1000 watts? This impedance stuff makes my head spin. I am going to be playing outdoor gigs, farmers markets, bars, fairs maybe even a casino (with pa support) I won't be touring. I just don't want to blow anything up!!
The amp runs at 800 watts with a 4 ohm load and 400 watts with an 8 ohm load. If you plug it into an 8 ohm cabinet, the amp will produce 400 watts. The cabinet can handle 1000 watts, but it will do fine with 400. You're not going to hurt the amp or the cab this way.
500w @ 4 ohms is plenty. Means it's around 300w at 4. If the high-end amps above are too pricey, the Ashdown RM-500-EVO, Bugera Veyron M and Tech 21 VT Bass 500 are great amps. For even less the Peavey Minimax is nice. The TCE Thrust 500 is only 250 bucks. Not sure how good it is.
This is nice too. 600w for 400 bucks. Nice features. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/amp...0000000?pfm=item_page.OOS2|CategoryTopSellers
I'm me, so I'm going to wholeheartedly suggest a Gallien Krueger. Any Gallien Krueger over 200 watts, really, I've never played any G-K that didn't sound like a G-K, and I've played most of what they've made at one point or another. Distinctive, yet versatile, and notoriously indestructible with a lot of punch and (for want of a better term) 'balls'. I've always played them, mostly exclusively, and I always will.
Anything will. You've got 4 killer 10s in a box. Anything you want will suit your needs. *cough cough* SVT *cough cough*
I'd suggest you check out the DNA-800 amp. It's got 800-watts available for you to use if you need it and street price is $799. It has all the normal bells and whistles along with a a built-in compressor with adjustable Threshold and Ratio controls. Plus, it weighs only 4.8-lbs. - very easy to transport. If you want more than that, then the DNA-1350, which is 1350-watts rms and 7-lbs in weight. It has more features than the DNA800, but it's almost twice the price and you probably won't need nearly that much power with your 410 cab. Here's a review of the DNA-800 by Bass Musician Magazine. I've cued it up to the part where he goes through the amp. He's playing it through a DNS-210 cab.
