Help me pick a Modulation Pedal for Secondary Board

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Maxfenderbass, Dec 8, 2017.

  1. Hey guys,

    I'm building a secondary board out my spare pedals for my P Bass with flats into my Eden WT400. So far the signal chain is;

MXR Bass Octave -> OC2 ->Mr Black Fwonk Beta -> MXR Bass Overdrive -> EHX Green Russian -> (Fill in the blank) -> MXR Echoplex Delay.

I am looking for a modulation pedal of some sort to fill in the blank. I'm not looking for a chorus (I have one on my primary board). I am open to all suggestions, preferable something that doesn't sound like mud with flats.

I liked the full sized TCe Corona Chorus. I used the tone print for a CE-2 model, but there's loads to choose from.
  4. Zoom MS70 CDR or Zoom MS60B Bass.

How about a Boss BF-2 Flanger?
  6. I was looking at a flanger, never had one before.
So far my favorite I have heard is the Alexander F13
  7. Looking for something different than a chorus.
  8. I like how it kind of does everything, like a simpler, smaller, less optioned, cheaper mobius haha

That's why I usually suggest the BF-2. It's cheap, easy to find, and sounds great.

The Utility Knife is indeed awesome. But I love my MXR Phase 99. It's not chorusy, it's not flangey, but with two phaser sweeps especially in parallel, it's different from the wow-wow-wow of a single phaser or vibe.

It has a good flanger and so much more.

Empress Nebulus; a Swiss Army knife with all sorts of modulation options(meaning, yes, there will be chorus onboard, but quite tweekable, so maybe you can come up with an alternative chorus flavor). Mono only, but has a couple of programmable presets. Reasonably small footprint.

Boss MD-500. Has everything you need and much more.
I also like very much the modulations of my M5.

Strymon Mobius or Eventide H9 Max, or Boss MD-500. If you want just a good phaser - so there are two EBS DPhaser or Pigtronix EP-2.

Kill all birds with one stone, Eventide H9.
  18. YEAH!

I had big-time GAS for this when it came out and a long while thereafter, but I'd literally forgotten about the Nebulous
(too bad Empress insisted on its misspelling).

One thing to note, you describe it as a Swiss Army knife of modulation; while it is a pedal with diverse capabilities, the whole Swiss Army knife thing was appropriated by Southampton, even though the Nebulous came out first. :woot:

What the ... no bass demo?

    GAS reignited...

Check out the Source Audio Orbital. It has 2 presets, every type of modulation, is very versatile and it's much cheaper than the Mobius!
