I have a Nordstrand NX5 on order, and it's about time for me to pick the top, since my bass is ready to be built. It's a bolt-on NX5. Check out this URL to see the one that was sent to the Groove Shoppe:

It's the first one on the Gallery page.

Now, I'm thinking of three tops, but if anyone else has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm going with a swamp ash body, maple neck, and maple board. Likely no inlays, but it depends on the top, I think.

Here are some things I'm considering:

    1. A spalt maple similar to the one shown above.

    2. A purpleheart sapwood top, with the sapwood in the center, similar to the following:
http://www.blueberryhillbass.com/basses.htm#roscoe (check the bottom of the page). I hope to find more of a wavy line for the sapwood, instead of it looking like straight body wings. If I did this, I'd consider purpleheart block inlays.

    3. A mac ebony top similar to the following:
Check the second bass in the recently sold section. I'd consider ebony blocks if I used this top.

What do you all think? Any other ideas?

    Personally, I like the ebony.
Used to be mine. One of those you'll always regret getting rid of.

For me, a maple fingerboard means a dark top. Go with the mac ebony.
