Help me quick! Will stripping the finish damage block inlays?

I just got an SX 5 stringer in the mail, and the black blocks on it have a kind of greenishyellow haze around them. If I strip the finish and respray, will I damage the blocks?

I will probably just send back the bass, but I wanted to know before I leave work today what can be done about this.
    Thanks in advance.
  2. Hmmm, that is a funny clue. If they were white pearl, we could be 100% sure that they were truly inlayed but with black there isn't conclusive proof that they aren't painted. The haze has all of the earmarks of pigment bleed when the clearcoat was applied. I'm not saying they are one way or the other. It's just a simple but valid observation that, unless one of us has seen a black inlay, in person without the clearcoat, we can't be positive it's not a painted block.

Just keepin' it real here. :meh:
