Help me understand tab

Discussion in 'Tablature and Notation [BG]' started by rangolf, Oct 24, 2004.

  1. :confused: I understand the Nashville number system, but for the life of me I can't seem to grasp the tab system. I know the #'s indicate the string & fret to be played, but after that I'm toast. Any help will be appreciated. Thx. R.
  2. Heh, if you're having this much trouble with tab, JUST FUGGET 'BOUT IT!

    You're most likely better off just learning standard notation. Personally, I can read off a chart and play in a band better than I can read tab and play in a band. It's just easier for me to read on the spot.

    H = hammer-on
    \ = slide down
    / = slide up

    I mean, usually authors of tab say what do to if it's something special.

    Just MAI 'pinion.
  3. :cool: I appreciate that, but I still want to know the difference. No offense bass bro's or bass sis's !!! All the Bass, R.

    The number is the fret (0 is an open string) and the line shows which string. The top line is G and they go down from there. Time goes forward :p
