I have not played for 15 years. I just bought a used Roscoe 5 string which set me back quite a bit. I am now trying to figure out what amp to get with it. I am looking for a punchy amp/cabinet with good bottom end. I would use it in halls that seat no more that a hundred or so and even then, it would go through the system. I have played some nice quad speaker cabinets and they sound great, but I have no clue as to what brand is best.

Oh, I also do not want to have to use a fork lift to carry the thing.

    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to TalkBass.:)

I personally like the Ampeg B2R (350W into 4 ohm) head along with the SVT 410 HLF (4 ohm cab) cabinet. I have the cabinet & am not using it because for some strange reason I think I need the SVT 810 that I'm currently using. :p But your best bet is try as many different amps/combo that you can. The SWR Surer RedHead is a GREAT 210 combo & has great lows & is 350W!!!!

  3. Consider Carvin. Their really cheap, and perform exelent. Too bad you can't try before you buy them, but consider the redeye combo.

    Thanks Angus!

The only this is that the bass really set me back in the money department, so I need to be pretty frugal in what I get for an amp.

I really like the 4x10" configurations, but the SWR Surer RedHead looks like a possibility. I'm going to have to spend some time in a few local stores to see what the sound/vs affordability factor is like!!

You want a warm sounding amp or a transparent, bright sounding amp?
