Arghh... i screwed up here. I have a $150 limit to spend on my wife for Christmas. I want to get her an mp3 player. I'd prefer more than a gig and not an iPod shuffle (I have my reasons and it's nothing to do with anti-Apple or anti-iPod). So the thing is Tigerdirect had the Creative Zen Micro for $129 a few days ago. I thought "Sweet, that's what I'll get her. I'll just wait a few days to make sure that she doesn't tell me she wants something else." Now, tigerdirect doesn't have them anymore and no one else has them shipped for $150 or less. I'm considering the 1gb Mobiblu Cube that Wal-Mart has. It's gotten good ratings from PC Mag and CNET but still, I'd rather have something up in the 4 gig range. I'm pissed at myself for not jumping on the Zen Micro deal. Anyone have any good alternate suggestions? brad cook
The Zen Micro is pretty cool. A few of my friends have one, it's pretty much identical to the IPod, interface-wise, and it seems to be pretty solid. I would recommend that one, since I'm not well-versed in MP3 players. However I'll be watching this thread since I'm considering buying one for myself really soon.
Well I was kinda hoping but I don't want to press my luck. How do you know this? If anyone sees them for that price please post it here. brad cook
Mostly I just wanted to subscribe to this thread as I've been watching mp3 players for myself lately. Also slightly curious why you're anti-shuffle? Just because of the smaller capacity? I do think the lack a display is a turn-off. Good luck finding the right one. FWIW I think it's an awesome gift regardless of brand.
Creative have some issues with the headphone jack, just check thier own forums. I would go for a Rio forge 512 and a memory card.
I have a zen. I know people complain all the time about the headphone jack... But I've had no problems on my zen whatsoever.
Just a hunch, no insider knowledge. It's that time of year, new models coming out soon, time to blow out the 2005's, yadda yadda yadda...... I agree with Joshua on the Rio suggestion. I have owned several, with zero problems. -Mike
I have a Lyra which sounds pretty good to my ears, an iPod junky co worker gave me a Rio Forge 512 he had laying around... nice unit and a little tougher than the lyra... Anyone got a recommendation on some good aftermarket earbuds?
A while back jive1 (I think) mentioned KOSS the Plug. These work well for me. Other cool thngs about the forge are the black text on a white background screen and the battery life.
My son has had a Lyra RD1028 for over a year now with no problems. I borrow it to use at work everyday since he can't take it to school. It is way too small at only 128mb but it has made me look into the rest of the Lyra line. I'm thinking about one of the Lyra RD 2762 4gb Micro Jukebox. They are going for about $140-$150 online and start around $110 on Ebay .
The more I read about it, the more I'm interested in the Mobiblu 1500i. At this point if I can't find the Zen Micro for under $150 in a reasonable amount of time then I'll probably get her that. brad cook
