I have a 1988 spector bass. I bought a set of EMG PJX pickups for it and An Aguilar OBP-2tk Preamp. I took it to my local tech and he says he cannot wire the Aguilar to my EMG pickups. I thought spector's can come from the factory with EMG active pickups and a Aguilar (Optional)? Why can't my tech fix this? Is he not a very skilled tech? HELP!
If he's confused by the solder-less wiring system, just tell him to clip the plugs off the end that goes to the pots, and solder them onto the blend pot. And make sure he knows to change the value of the blend and volume pots. I've done this a few times, and it's not all that hard. I suggest finding a qualified tech. Some techs that are good at setups, or even people that make basses often are lacking in the electronics department. I recently had a bass here to install new pickups into. It was a Jazz bass with EMG Js and a Sadowsky preamp. The owner said the EMGs sounded dark and muddy. I found that curious because they are exactly the opposite. Well it seems that the tech, who makes very nice basses, decided to clip off the cables from the EMGs and installed his own, but did not hook them up to the battery. So they were unpowered! No wonder they sounded so bad. So the moral of the story is you need to find a tech that's up on electronics and wiring.
if somebody can recomend me a tech in KY that can wire it up. I dont know of any places that service Guitars or basses close to me.
Uncle Sam's Jamms. Preston highway in Louisville. They are the Spector reseller here. I don't know where in KY you are, but I do know that they are probably going to be able to help you. I also like Guitar Emporium on Bardstown Road. They are the Ric reseller, and their guy did a real nice job re-potting my Ric pickup. Also Music-Go-Round has some techie guys but I can't vouch for their quality. I would NOT take it to the new Guitar Center under any circumstances.
I will definetly See to it to visit A qualified tech. I live in winchester and RS Guitar works was of no help at all. I appreciate the help.
Wow, RS is usually up on things. They build guitars. Maybe the plugs have them confused as said above.
