Hi guys, could use some expert advice on this one. There's this P bass listed close by to where I live.
It's advertised as a 1978, but the odd thing(s) is I never seen this binding and these inlays.
Any ideas what this is? Was the fretboard changed or could this be factory original. Or some kind of a parts bass?
Any idea on what's a fair price for this type and condition?

  2. The whole fretboard is changed out.
Looks more like an „slab“ board.

The fretboard looks like an early 80s transition jazz bass, they had dots and binding. Knobs and pickup look a bit too clean considering the finish wear. Also if that's a brass nut it's not original, and there's two extra screws in the headstock. From an extra string retainer, perhaps?

True, the wear doesn’t match across the bass . Even the screws on the pickguard are too mint in comparison, but what I find the most confusing are the inlays on the fretboard. If you zoom in, you’ll see what I mean
    Thanks for the replies guys

It looks to me that someone put a slab ebony fretboard (and binding) on an original neck.

Looks like someone has changed out a few things. Those are older pre-76 tuners. 78 tuners look like these —

Possibly, someone had a damaged fingerboard and had new one done...?

It’s a pretty nice looking bass, it just has some non-original stuff on it. It also has a couple extra screws in the front of the headstock. Looks like where someone had some kind of extra string tree for the “A” string.
