i have tried many strings on my bass, but i always find the low B string is not a very bright sound, it always seems faded and not clear. does anyone have any advice over what type of strings i should go for?

    thanks

It's just not easy getting a great sound out of a B string; it takes some experimentation. This is why you see 35" or 36" scales on extended range basses. It's really impossible to answer your question impartially; there are SO many schools of thought regarding B string articulation. Lots of players feel that taper wound B strings sound better, yet I've found that conventional wound B strings sound great on my fivers.

Personally, I prefer a conventional wound .130 B string. I don't know if that puts me in the majority so, bassically, I was of no help to you. :)
