    hi, any insight is much appreciated
    i have a trace elliot 300 watt 7215 combo with built in compression (always on), 7band eq (midrange boost for that cut-through :)) and an effects loop

    pedal wise i have (in this order)
    EHX bassballs (usa made)
    boss TU-2 chromatic tuner
    EBS octabass
    dunlop crybaby bass GCB-100
    boss ODB3 overdrive
    boss CEB3 chorus
    boss PH3 phase shifter

    when i go
    active bass -> active input
    effects send -> 1st effect
    last effect -> effects return
    i get a terrible hissing from the amp

    going from bass to first effect then from last effect to amp input is ok, but could do without the tiny hissing it makes

    any suggestions as to how i should set this up better? also if the purchase of any additional equipment would help please feel free to suggest

    love to colour my sound with the odd effect but the tone-sucking hissing sound is bugging, any help much appreciated

    I'd try each effect individually in the effects loop to suss which one is the noisemaker.

    If it's something indispensible, you can always put a noisegate after it. Boss makes one (NS-2) that's well regarded.

    why not putting your tuner first?
    and I would put only the phaser into the effects loop and leave the rest before the amp input

    Generally pedals are designed for instrument level input.

    Putting pedals into the FX loop gives a line level input and
    different impedance which can create noise.
    Check your manual.

    Suggestion: Bass - pedals - passive input

    The Octiver needs a clean signal to track properly.
    Next OD's, then modulators.
