i plan on getting a nordstrand MM pickup for my modulus flea bass very soon. i hear this is the pickup most suited for getting the old school stingray tone as well as warming up a very bright sounding bass. i am a complete newb when it comes to pickup so i have no idea how to wire it (series, parallel, just go passive, etc.) and i was hoping to get some opinions. i have an aguilar obp-1 pre in the bass that i was planning to use. basically i am after a more woody and thick sound. any suggestions?

also, what are the benefits of going active? passive?

well, the classic stingray type sound is that of a humbucker wired in parallel. So if you have to choose only one, I"d suggest that.

If possible, I'd recommend wiring it up with a dpdt switch so you can choose between series and parallel. Series will be noticably hotter with more of a midrange emphasis.
