Help pick amp head for Ric...

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by nickalan620, Aug 24, 2004.

  1. A week ago I thought I was going to but a P - Bass but i have changed my mine (for the millionth time :D ). Now i think i am preety much set on getting a Ric 4003 as my next bass. I am also in the market for a buying a new amp (currently i have the behringer head). I need a clean amp that will not color the unique sound of the ric. I was looking at around 300 to 450 watts. The swr workingsman 4004 amps looks preety good but is there anything better around that price ($559 or something like that).

I would stay away from the SWR Workingmen's series.

If you don't mind going used, snag a SWR SM-400/400s/500 for about that price. I know a few Talkbassers were selling these recently for $450 shipped... I know MikeMess was one of the two.

When I tried an SWR SM-500 at the store, it sounded great. It didn't color the sound much (if at all...it was very transparent), but the EQ did bring out the frequencies you want it to, without changing the sound too much.
