Help replacing a speaker

The speaker in my Ashdown MAG 300 115 is broken. It's an 8 ohm, 200 watt 15" speaker and the head is 300 watts. Can I replace the broken speaker with a 300 watt, 4 ohm 15" speaker to get the full 300 watts from the head instead of getting an extension cab?

Where can speakers be bought online and would I be able to install it myself?

You cannot just slot any 15" speaker into that cabinet and expect it to work well. You should carefully measure the cabs inside dimensions as well as the ports if any. Slot those figures into a program such as WinISD Pro and then the specs for whatever speaker you are hoping to use. If the speakers requirement match up with your cabinet then there is no problem with putting a more powerful speaker in there.

Hi Domokun.

I think your best bet is to get a replacement 15" from Ashdown and an extension cab. I got a replacement 10" from Ashdown and it was only about £38 delivered. If you get a 2X10" 250W extension it will sound better and move more air than a 4 ohm 500w (which is what you would need) 15" driver.

Don't bother with their tweeters though. They don't last, a £5 driver from Maplin is just as good.

Best regards
Russell
