I need help w/my OBP-1. I emailed Aguilar about it & I'm gonna ask you guys also. If any of you guys could help, I'd be VERY GRATEFUL!!!!!!

2. is the OBP-1 correctly grounded ?

another thingy to try..wrap the OBP-1 in a plastic sandwitch-bag. then wrap the sandwitchbag in tin-foil ( silverpaper ? ), and wrap that whole package in another sandwitchbag, and put it in the bass.

this way, the OBP-1 is not only shielded from outside radiosources, but also shielded from the other electronics..

worth a try ?

Yeah, the bass is grounded correctly. That was the 1st thing I though of.

I like your suggestion, but what would the plastic sandwich bags do?

The plastic would insulate the foil shielding, thereby preventing it from coming into contact with other metal parts.

5. contempt you oddentity!:D ya beat me to it!

6. yeah.. isolate the tin foil from the other metalic parts, and thus preventing shortcuts :)

5 DAYS & I HAVE'NT GOTTEN A RESPONSE FOR AGUILAR!!!!!!

OK, I'm kinda upset that I have'nt gotten a response to 2 EMAILS I sent!!!!! But that's OK.

I tried to ground & isolate the pre-amp & it didn't work, I tried it w/other passive pick ups & I had the same problem. Then it hit me.....

...since my Warmoth 5 has the OBP-1 w/EMG's & no problems why not try a set of EMG J's in the bass??!? Guess what? NO NOISE!!!!!! it was as quiet as......

....something really quiet. LOL

I'd still like a respone from Aguilar to hear why passive pickups cause this problem to their pre amp & EMG's don't. I'm assuming it's an inpedence mismatch. The Aguilar need 25K pots for the premap to work properly & EMG's also need 25K pots for the pickups to work properly.

I have the exact same problem with that preamp on my Jazz Bass which has barts in it. The pickup characteristics seem to have an effect on this, but the wiring does not seem to solve the problem. I have tried numerous things to get the radio pickup noise down. One time It was so bad I could actually play to the spanish music coming from my bass amp! Have you heard anything from aguilar about this?

Nino,
If you use the 25K pots it may solve the problem, but it will totally kill the high frequency response of the pickups. Passive pickups really need to see a high load impedance or the internal inductance acts like a high cut filter just like in an audio crossover network. The problem is in the preamp. The unit has really good high frequency response, but it is just very unstable. I have 250K pots in my bass with 1 pot per pickup and noticed this effect:
with either volume all the way up I get the spanish radio with them both backed off, less problems.

If you dont mind, I would appreciate you keeping me posted on the comms with Aguilar.

Thanks for the detailed response
