Hey everyone, I just got this 44-60 Custom a couple days ago and I got a free custom pickguard included in the deal, so I have to decide by tomorrow which color I want.

I'm pretty much only considering Black (B/W/B) or BROWN Tort.

If this bass had a rosewood board, I'd go tort for sure. If it had a plain maple board, I'd go black for sure. I considered mint, but decided against it.

I think both colors would give a nice vintage vibe, but what do you think?

    ALSO:

PLEASE post pics of a Jazz with this color combo with a BROWN TORT guard if you have one! I've found examples of black, but not of the right tort. That may be able to help me make up my mind!

    Here is my bass..

Here are a couple really rough photoshops of the two..

Don't mind the ashtray on the tort

I voted black. But buy a black one, I hate BWB on burst finishes. The white line ruins it for me. I think white pearl would be nice with your blocks too!

Strangely enough, I still haven't received the pickguard yet, so I haven't been forced to pick a color yet, so the thread is still relevant.

Good news is, I may end up getting both black AND tort for free, since the wait has been so long.

But I'd still like some opinions in the mean time!

I've actually got an example of what the bass would look like with black on it, I stuck a black Geddy Lee pickguard on it (It ALMOST fits.. not quite), but it looks close enough.

Here it is in a video:

Maybe that will help? I think it looks nice with the black.. but tort is still keeping my interest

I totally disagree about the BWB. I actually like the white line contrast.

But about the OP's original question, I'm having a hard time deciding. I really like both the tort and the black. I know that's no help; but in a strange way it IS of some help. It's helpful to know that they both look great! ;)

You did put other in your poll and to specify.
The original pickguard was white, and I kinda like this one better.

In those pictures I think the original white looks better than black or tort on this bass. Might you consider a white pearl? Could be way cool.

  15. For the sunburst, I'd suggest the tort. That's what I voted.
