Help with Bass output issue

Hello, Bass fam. I am a newby to bass (but a adv beginning guitar) and got a Dean Zone II used for Xmas. I noticed it had trouble generating enough signal for Rocksmith and my Vox amplug (don't have a real amp yet, no space). If I crank both the bass and Vox volume, I get a decent sound. When I hook up my cheap strat knock off, I only have to put the volume up to 50% ish to get a good sound.
I sent it to my local store. The guy cleaned it and soldered the input jack, telling me that should fix the problem. Got it home and same problem. So now I am stuck.
Any Ideas? Pups? Dead Pots? Time to give up and buy that Squier Jazz on Craigslist?
    Thanks!

It might just be a cheap pickup with low output. The only thing to check is to see if you can raise the pickup higher, closer to the strings. That can make a big difference. There should be adjuster screws and its very simple to do.
    Cheers

Does anybody know the Suggested PUP Height for the Dean Zone II?

Bad/cheap strings can bring down the volume a LOT . Maybe try new strings......

Did you get it from that store?
Did the guy who "fixed" it plug it in and test it out?

Raise it up so the volume is as loud as I as you like it and the strings don't touch the pickup. That is the suggested height.

Thanks to you both. The repair guy plugged it in to make sure it worked. The volume issue is on me. I raised them up and am now getting good volume out.
