Hi I am a folk guitarist who uses an effects chain to create a bass on my lower strings(POG with compressor and eq). I was looking for good advice that would allow me to create a nice deep and clean tone with basic EQ and good portability. I use an acoustic guitar if that means anything. The tone from the bass in this video is what I am hoping to achieve. Max Budget is about £800 Thanks!!
I use two setups. Fishman Rare earth Humbucker -> boss compressor -> MXR 10 band EQ pedal -> Radial Passive DI. A little Thunder Pickup -> Boss Compressor -> MXR 10 band EQ -> Radial Passive DI. The PA changes a lot due to venue but mostly Martin Blackline Series Stuff.
Fender Rumble Combo 500 should do it. Lots of love on TB. Low, light and loud. Reasonably priced. Available at Thomann. Fender Rumble Club | TalkBass.com
I would pick an Ampeg PF350 head with an Ampeg SVT210AV cabinet. Small footprint (13 x 11 x 24, W x D x H for the cabinet; 11 x 11 x 2 for the head) Lightweight (26 lbs for the cabinet; 8 lbs for the head) For your set-up more than powerful enough, I expect This set-up is very versatile IMHO, easy dialing from clean to boomy etcetera. (I also play stagepiano with this setup, I like it a lot and I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by it when playing "normal" guitar over the Ampeg) Total price: 658 pounds at Thomann. Best thing perhaps is to compare the various options. Good luck with the search! IMHO, YMMV
