  2. Because Photobucket has chosen to in effect "take down" everyone's photos (unless you pay them), we have extended post edit time in the Luthier's Corner to UNLIMITED.  If you used photobucket and happen to still have your images of builds, you can go back and fix as many of your posts as far back as you wish.

Note that TalkBass will host unlimited attachments for you, all the time, for free ;)  Just hit that "Upload a File" button.  You are also free to use our Media Gallery if you want a place to create albums, organize photos, etc :)

My P Bass' nut is broken on the G string side. I have an uncut blank nut, but I don't know how to get the old one off. Any suggestions?

  2. Easy - take a pair of pliers with a flat nose - simple slip joint pliers will do - and hold them vertically, pointed down over the nut. Grasp the nut firmly in the middle between the A and D string slots and pull up gently. In most cases the nut will ease out of the slot with only a little wiggle. Don't wiggle too much or you'll break it.

    Hope this helps...

Hot damn!! It came right out. BTW, Fender sent me about 10 bone nut blanks, so if you need a couple..... :bassist:
