I answered a CL ad from a guitar player looking to get something going. We met and talked for over an hour. We got along just fine personality wise. Musically we are on the same page as well. He also heard from a keyboard player. We’re going to pick some songs to start working on. We’ll get together after the 4th of July. Hopefully we will find some other possible members soon. Wish me luck.
No, I haven’t heard him play. The chemistry just meeting was very good. I have been in a couple bands where there were personality conflicts. Assuming he can play the stuff he mentioned in his posting I imagine he will be OK. We’ll figure out some songs to play when we get together. I also learned the importance of a good drummer. We’ll look for the other pieces of this puzzle.
Don’t give this idea any more thought until you hear him play. There are 100 “musicians” out there who say they can play for every 1 that actually can.
This went nowhere but...... I have an audition coming up with a band looking for a bass player. I answered their ad, played phone tag. I made the last call but hadn’t heard back, then I did. Had a nice chat with the singer, they rehearse at his place. He sent a song list, some I know, some I don’t. Some really good songs plus a couple I’m not too crazy about. We’ll see how it goes. Earlier same day I got together with a guitarist that wanted to get back into it. He didn’t have a car, I had to pick him up. He had a low end Squier Strat, no case or gig bag. I’m not knocking Squiers, I have a Squier bass that I really like. When trying to tune up I said we’ll use the tuner on my phone, hit your high E. He didn’t have one. I had an extra one that I ga e him. No strap button on the horn, a really thin instrument cable. He had a Fender practice amp. We noodled a bit on a couple songs. Nothing much there. I initially thought, give this a another try before moving on. We talked about working on a few songs for next time but didn’t set a date. After hearing from the band I let him know I was going to focus on them. I ‘ll be auditioning them as well. I want to be sure it is a good fit. We’ll see. If nothing else I’m expanding my repertoire working on some new songs.
