Here's a modded Squier idea that came to me overnight

I had this idea come into my head while falling asleep last night, and the more I think of it the more I might do it.

It would be mostly bodywork, only wiring would be desoldering and resoldering the pickup.

    Here's the plan:
-Acquire Squier VM Jag HB, silver.
-Route body and cut pickguard to relocate single pickup to approximate P location.
-Fill, patch, and sand smooth original pickup cavity
-Sand and spray body in White (this is why you I'd start with silver)

End result is a single middle 'bucker equipped Jaguar, retaining the 3 band EQ, in a white/rosewood/blackguard scheme that would be IMO quite fetching. It should not cost very much at all.

If I can line up somewhere to paint the body myself I'm going to make this my next project (current project is restoring a Raleigh bicycle).

Why not just add another humbucker and a new preamp with seperate volumes or a balance pot? More tonal versatility overall and less bodywork to do (not having to fill the old cavity), even if there was more wiring to do. Sure, it would cost more, but why not spend a little money and get an even nicer bass out of it?

Two reasons: avoiding the complexity and costs, though minor, and because I would want it this way. :)

Filling and sanding the body is no bother, especially since it would be repainted anyhow.

    I like 5, 8, 10, and 12 string basses
I have been toying with the idea of getting a Squier Jag body then putting a pair of t-bird pickups in it and adding a p-bass neck and making it a 5 string fenderbird. The Jag body is somewhat like the non-reverse t-bird body already and putting in the t-bird pickups will give it the Quadrophenia tone.

So I figure I will have a good 5 string parts bass for around $300 -$400.

I would probably go passive, but I might use a preamp.

I am considering the same for a p-bass as well. Then I get the comfort of a fender and the thunderbird tone.

I like the idea of adding the pickup, but why fill in the old hole? simply add the second pickup and a toggle switch and run the pickup you like.

I think the desire for only the middle/front pickup in a loose way is because one of the distant influences for the idea is the G&L L1000 and maybe a little bit the older Peavey Fury ii.

Think of it as the twisted offspring of a Precision and a Jaguar but raised by G&L.

Note: in no way do I assume it will sound anything like an L1000.
