I am totally bummed. My matching heritage 410 hlf arrived today but when I play low Notes on the E string with a little volume, fart sound. :crying: Took the grill off as I thought maybe it was too close to the speaker but same bad sound with the grill off. I cannot see any visible problems. What could be the cause?

Sorry to hear that! What's the Serial Number of the cab?
First thing I'd do is to plug everything as-is into a different cabinet to eliminate head, bass, cables, etc. There are quite a few things that can cause your troubles so it's best to rule out everything else. If you've eliminated all other options and it IS the cab, I'd send it back. It'll come back to me eventually...

Could be you're pushing the low eq and/or volume. Sounds like overexcursion.

what head are you using (heritage CL?) and what bass and eq settings are you using?

I once received a 4x10 cab from a different high-end manufacturer that had one bad speaker. Turned out to be a misaligned voice coil that they suspected was damaged during shipping.

Call Ampeg ASAP and discuss troubleshooting what the cause might be and whether you should send the cab back or just one or two speakers for a swap.

They put the Heritage series through extra testing before shipping, so I suspect the problem might have been shipping damage. (shrug)

Hi Hodgy! Yes, the number is 63961034752. Your signature is on the tag!! I called today and Tom provided me with S&X pro Audio's phone number. I live close to Woodinville so was wondering if I could just bring it to you. I am using a new Heritage CL so I assume it is not the head. I swapped out cables, basses, etc but still having the issue even though not driving it that hard (barely enough to play rock with drums). Help!!

Also, I have two PN 210s and am not having any problem with those speakers like I am with the 410. Thanks!

I was concerned about that but I am replacing my Carvin rig with Ampeg and am not even close to the volume that would cause this to occur. I assume the Ampeg should easily be able to handle a low E F or G at the volume I am practicing without farting out...

Yes, using the CL and have a Fender Jazz, Bongo, and Smith basses. Bongo is most noticeable, has a lot of low end but I am not pushing it very hard...very mild EQ settings, turning up the bass on the CL obviously exacerbates the problem but nothing extreme on the EQ front. I also have 2 PN 210s and have no problem driving those at higher levels than the 410...

Don't take it to S&X. If you're local I'll get you hooked up. If it's one of my babies I take it very personally if it doesn't work. Shoot me a PM.
