  1. First off I want to say that I am listening to some of of the downloads from your site and I am really enjoying it...maybe you can tell me how to get a CD too. To my question though, a little while ago I bought a boss RC-20. I had a lot of fun with it, but I had some complaints. I wieghed my options and decided to return it to pay off the rest of another purchase. I really enjoyed the concept of looping, but i dont believe that i had the right tool. Recently, I have been thinking about putting down more money for a better one. I have read and heard good things about the Boomarang Phrase Sampler. I was wondering if you knew anything about this...Is it worth the money?...Good playback sound?...difficult to use?...also...what are some other units you would recommend? Thanks a lot...Nate

    Hi Nate,

the plus points about the Boomerang are that it has a really long potential sample time - the newest version has about 3 minutes I think (maybe longer in half speed). I'm not that keen on the interface, and find the pedals a little strange to use, but it is fairly simple to operate, and certainly worth looking at. I know a few people who've found the sample playback to be too noisy for them...

My favourite unit at the moment is the Line 6 DL4 - only 28 seconds of loop time, but very easy to use and great play back sound, as well as the option to add delay to the loop...

IF you've got the dough, the Echoplex is a pretty damn fine box, and I've heard some really good reports about the Eletrix Repeater, though I've not actually tried one yet...

the best place to look for this kind of info is at www.loopersdelight.com or possibly www.loopers-delight.com - it's a site dedicated to loop stuff!! and the mailing list the goes with it is rather good too...

    cheers

...oh, and the CD is orderable with a credit card via my website, or if you live near any of them, you can get it from the LA bass exchange, Bass North West in Seattle, the Gallery in London and the Bass Centre in London...

    cheers

  4. Thanks a lot... for right now i am interested in just a phrase recorder/sampler...i am not into midi or any of that stuff...That is what i like in the Boomarang...it seems so easy to use and not too technical...What are some advantages to having some of the capabilities that some of the other ones have(electrix repeater, echoplex)? one other thing, would a unit like these(rackmounted) come with a pedal unit for controling start and stop times and stuff like that?..or would i have to buy one?..how much do they usually cost? thanks again, Nate

I'm not sure what those units come packaged with in terms of foot controllers - it's worth asking at the shops near you that may stock them (same goes for DL4 prices - find out if you can get the power supply as well cos it'll munch batteries).

The advantages are often that a whole load more functions are accessable via midi - like on the JamMan, the usual footswitch only does start stop and mute, one more footswitch and you can also mute and replace, but with MIDI you can fade out and in, restart from the beginning, and a few other things, and also sync up to other units, time code, drum machines, computers etc, which is great for working with other loopers...

Not sure of the prices - you might get more idea from www.loopers-delight.com

    cheers

  6. I have been looking around and I really like the Repeater...I was wondering if you had any expirience with it?..and one other thing about the midi part of it...would it be advised to get a floor pedal?..Let me know, thanks a lot...

I've not had any hands on experience with the Repeater, but if you do scoot over to http://www.loopers-delight.com you'll find TONNES of stuff about it in the list archives, from uses who are happy, and users who aren't...)

    cheers
