Hide tuning post holes

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by chinjazz, Jul 4, 2013.

  1. Hi,

I'm rather slow going on a first build.
I bought a neck that had tuner posts that were too small for my hipshots, so I made the holes bigger. All great on the front but the back I need to hide the hole due to the shape of the hipshots bass.... Anyone run into this and have suggestions?

I cut some foam washers here, but I'm open to just about anything....

    Thanks!

Got a pic of the problem? Your solution seems pretty trick already...

  3. Hi Beej,

I can take a pic with the washers off when I get home today.

It's basically one side with open gap peeking thru. Just looks "shotty".. I tried some wood filler first, and thought the color differences of the wood and filler was not nice.

I also thought maybe to put a thin vineer over the back face (tightening up the back side hole circumference).. Or a more solid wood fill, like perhaps some bondo, then paint or stain for better hiding.

This bass is for me, so I can do what I want essentially :bassist:

    Thanks!
