I have Telus "Optik" t.v. They have this channel as a free preview for awhile...... I'm liking it....no commercials to speak of and there are three shows of note:- (1) 'From The Basement'........bands drop in and play their songs live. Last night they had the Red Hot Chile Peppers on.....took me in a whole new direction for RHCP........awesome. So far I've watched Feist, Foster The People, and RHCP..... This is a great show IMO.... (2) 'Guitar Picks'.......not about guitar picks but about luthiers and guitars.........very good. (3) 'Guitar Center Sessions'......comes from Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.....bands and groups drop in and play on a small intimate stage setting......last night I watched Jane's Addiction. Don't know yet if all the shows come from the Sunset Blvd. location......but it's a good show. If you can get HIFI, check it out.......
I've seen Guitar Center Sessions on Direct TV. But from my work in telecomm / broadcast I recognize Telus as a Canadian company. So is HIFI only available in Canada?
That's strange.... Telus started out by being my phone company. Years back it used to be called B.C.Tel............but it got taken over by a USA company and they changed it to Telus.......which originally was a division of AT&T I think.... Now Telus does the whole bundle......phone, internet and T.V.
HIFI TV is a Canadian channel that's headquartered in Toronto. Another great show on HIFI is called "Talks Music" hosted by Malcolm Gerrie. It's a one on one show with a major artist (often a guitarist) who has had tremendous success over the years. The artist (Jeff Beck, Lindsey Buckingham, etc) is interviewed and often picks up one of his guitars and plays the lick that's being discussed along with a number of others. There's a live audience who asks the artist questions as well towards the end of the show. Check it out if you get the chance, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. http://www.hifi.ca/shows/talks-music/ TD
