high gain on valve amp - through DI

    excuse me for the strange title of this thread... :rolleyes:

    I explain it...

    I usually send the signal to the PA using my amp DI, cause I mostly play in festivals where the sound engineers prefere not to use mics for bass amps... and you know it's not good to have an argument with a sound engineer before a gig...

    I always play with the gain cranked up... it's a valve amp and I like that dirty tone...

    but many people told me that such a sound will suck when sent through a DI... because to have a nice overdrive you need a speaker...

    I never had the opportunity to check this thing by myself...

    have you ever experienced this problem??

    DI can be pre-EQ or post-EQ - but is never post gain. In fact, the gain knobs on your amp should have no effect whatsoever on the output of the DI.

    on my marshall head, post eq DI is post gain..
