i was wondering if it is possible to string a four string bass with the strings off a five...minus the thinnest string

taht way i could tune b-e-a-d without the strings being so slack

my question is will this mess up my neck(because of differnt tension) and also if i would have to modify the bridge saddle or string to do this

    i appreciate any helpful replies

you need to modify the nut. Not quite sure about anythign else. I don't think it will dammage the neck I dont think you need to change the bridge either.,.. but I could be wrong.

once you modify the nut, and u try it and you dont like it, ur gonna have to get a new nut. unless u wanna shove paper in it.
