high tension on a Michael Kelly firefly

  1. How can I fix that? Would lighter strings work? I've never really dealt with an acoustic bass, and I kinda like my strings to be relatively low and loose.

  2. what strings are on it now? Flats?

  3. I'm assuming they're factory... D'Addario EPBB170 I believe... Either way they're phosphor bronze rounds.

  4. If it's got the phospher bronze D'Addarios on it, those ARE very high tension, which I wouldn't want on an acoustic bass guitar.
Mine is wearing a set of GHS precision flatwounds in light gauge, .43-.95, I believe. The strings give it a little more of an upright sound, and don't put so much tension on the top. Tapewounds, such as LaBellas and the new GHS tapes sound good on ABGs as well.
