Stevie Wonder is the first person I heard doing it, and I assume he wrote it.

Make no mistake, Stevie is definitely the author of Higher Ground, although the younger generation usually gives credit to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Stevie is the man. For more excellent Stevie funk, be sure to check out the classic, "Superstition."
  5. Stevie loved the cover though...most musicians hate when people play their covers...remember when Britney Spears sung Satisfaction????????

    Woking, Surrey.
It was also covered by Mamas Boys, a UK NWOBHM band from the 80s. (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) in a heavy rock style!
