hipshot 4->5 converter.

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by WillySanchez, Apr 13, 2003.

  1. I was reading about this hipshot 4 string to 5 string converter...it comes with bridge, nut and tuners....whats the deal with this? do you need to change the pickups? how far is the string spacing at the first fret? if you dont have to change the pickups...how does it sound going through the 4 string pickup?

    I did this about 15 years ago using a P Bass. The sound was pretty good using the stock p-up, but the spacing was __really__ tight. If you're pretty sure you want to change to a five, you should save your bucks and just get a five. That's what I ended up doing. YMMV and happy hunting. AC

    Me too. I did this to a P-bass back around '88-'89. The sound was okay, but like Low said, the spacing was awful. And that goofy single tuner on the bridge was lame.
    You can buy 5strings dirt cheap now, why even bother.
