Hipshot "drop D" extender keys

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by slipknot229, May 8, 2001.

  1. I was wondering if the extender key can be used on a five string to lower the b to a? thanks a lot for the help

Dang. That's a good question. It doesn't say you can't
at the site, per se. There IS a pic of Bunny Brunel with
one on a fiver. I'm guessin' you'd need a really tight B string.

I think that it's possible...keeping in mind that like Notduane said: have a really good B string. Other than that, I can't imagine why not.

Maybe buy a set of 4's in your regular gauge and get a heavy low B. You can get almost any single string ever made at www.juststrings.com -- best prices I've seen and a STUNNING selection. Great service and attention too.

I think a taper might be really useful in that situation.
  6. some makers offer 5strings with a Dtuner on the Bstring eg. that Kenneth Lawrence "Brase" bass in BP's Ultimate 5string review.

I suppose technically it would be an "A-tuner" then.

I remember VH's Mike Anthony (yes, him again) had Dtuners put on both the E and B strings of his Peavey 5string.
(you can see it in that Dean Markley ad)
