  1. Well, I could ask someone else, but you would know anyways.

Would there be any advantages/disadvantages to running a banna, or a speakon to 1/4 inch, from my power amp, to my cab?

    Which would be best?

A lot of people here could answer that question...

    Simplified version -

Heavier gauge is better for long speaker cables, but shorter speaker cables are better.

    Banana is better than 1/4"
    Speakon is better than banana

    Hope this helps.

    Why they're better...
Banana and speakon have more surface contact where they mate. Speakon locks and has a nice disconnect feature when disconnecting under load (why people do, I don't know).

    What they said ... :)

I've never had it happen to me, but I've heard of 1/4" plugs on PA bass bins getting pushed right out of their jacks by the internal pressures in the cabinets (they were probably infinite baffle cabinets). Speakons would've held on tight. ;)

I think speakons were originally designed with PA and concert PA's in mind. during a big concert setup you don't want to have to keep powering up and down all the amps just to replace cables or have them get knocked out if someone trips on them. You did know that pulling a 1/4" cable under power can short the output circuit, right? I bet many a fuse was blown or amp ruined because of premature disconnect.

  6. I'll probably get the Speakon to 1/4 monster cable.

But long enough to use my rack on the floor.

I can imagine they'll want an arm and a leg for that! ;)

But in banking, the interest doesn't come before the deposit. ;)
