Hello, I bought this bass and I will like to know the date of manufacture. There is no serial number, but I found numbers on the pots. Have you got any idea? Thank you. {} {} {}
The pot codes indicate they were made in 1962 during the 4th and 14th week from what I can see of them in your photos. The code stamped on the pots interprets as 250k _ _ _ which means 250k is the resistance of the pot the next 3 digits are the year and week of manufacture. 250k214 = 62 as the year and the 14th week. 250k204 = 62 as the year and the 4th week. I know the bass was made during the 60's because it has all of the features of a Hofner bass made during that time period. It's definitely safe to say the bass was made in 1962. Hope this helps. TD
Hi. Congrats, a great VERY under-appreciated vintage bass. Is the paint badly (in a good way ) creased? I have a red one in the works that looks like marble. Here's a cool website if You haven't found it yet: http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/ and from that site: http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/factfiles/bodydate/potcode.html So I'm siding with FranF on the 64. Regards Sam
You're correct Fran. It is the week first then the year. Don't know how I got that backwards. It must be a sign of the age thing starting to set in. Anyway, cool it's a 182. TD
Hello. Thank you for answers, compliments and links. The finish on the body is a kind of vinyl. I post a photo to try to show the texture. {}
