Can anyone explain the Hofner switch setup? What do the treble, bass and solo/rhythm switches do? Are the knobs both vol F/R.

Bass on switchs the bridge pickup off, treble on switchs the neck pickup off, the knobs are volume for each pickup and the solo/rhythm is a mute, rhythm mutes the sound a bit and solo leaves it as is :)
At least that's the way it works in my Ignition.

Same on my Icon. It seems counterintuitive; I think of the pickup switches as "feature pickup" switches.

Bass On switches in a .1 uF cap in series with an 8.2k resistor for a treble cut; Treble On switches in a .01 uF cap (in series) for a bass cut. That's why the switches offer different sounds than just rolling off the volume on on pickup or the other. Rhythm switches in a resistor or two to drop the volume by 30%.
