I just picked up a Hofner V64 500/1 in Candy Apple Red from the USA Custom Shop. It looks and plays fantastic. They are producing some great stuff. I would post a picture but as new to forum unsure on how to proceed.

You can order a custom version of pretty much any model of 500/1 and 500/2 series that you want. If you do, the factory sends the bass unfinished unassembled along with all its hardware to a gentleman in Chicago (their USA Custom Shop) to make the modifications, finish and assemble the instrument. It's then sent to the dealer for delivery to the customer.

In addition and more recently, the factory itself has been doing more of the custom work now that they have more production time available to them. That's due to the Chinese made CT Series taking production away from Germany which allows them to focus on their regular production and custom configured/finished instruments.

There is a photo of it on Hofner's Facebook page. Mr Davis is correct. It does have the Genuine Hofner Original Made in Germany tag. I guess its no different than what Music Ground in England has done for years. Quality is extremely high on these. Better than I have seen from them for a long time. I remember when the necks were carelessly attached to the body at varying angles. It's a great time for Hofner quality.

I have #1 while its my understanding that Thom Yorke has #2 of this bass. That's all there are.
