I'm just wondering. I know it's the Beatle bass and all. But could you actually play it for metal, stoner, doom?

    Why not?

It's not ideal for downtuning or slapping, but it's a bass. It works.
  3. Paul McCartney plays "Helter Skelter" live on a Hofner.

So, Is Helter Skelter metal, stoner or doom?
I'm not quite sure which one it fits in......

  5. Seems like you could coax some heavy feedback out of it more easily than out of a solid body bass. Might be interesting?
  6. I'd say "Helter Skelter" is proto-metal. It's certainly a heavy song, whatever marketing label you put on it.

Years ago my first real bass was a Hofner. I got it in 1972 by '74 it was clear I needed a full scale solid body bass to play heavier hard rock.
