Possibly only 2 were ever made in the 1960-1961 time period. This 1961 Left-Handed 500/1 Hofner, is virtually identical to Sir Paul McCartneys FIRST Bass guitar, which was stolen (1969?) and never recovered.

Read into that what you will. Flippin' kewl bass, but it cost more than my house.

Nice the way he stuck pics of McCartney in the auction.

i think that this auction begs the question, "if paul mccartney, like eric clapton decided to sell his guitar collection, what would THE hofner and his beatles ric sell for?".

any opinions? ec's blackey sold for 975k so i figure pauls beatle hofner would bring in a couple of million.

yeah but he does own the first 2 lefties ever made and my buddy owns #3, and that aint a joke either.

  10. It's not McCartneys...wrong colour (he had it re-done fender style sunburst and had new pickup mountings put on - see the revolution video)

I'd be willing to bet Macca's Ric or either Hofner, the 1961 or the 1963 would go over a million.
