I badly want to get a Hofner Club bass (beautiful instrument, light weight, cool vibe), but I am not into flats or nylon strings.

Music I play (rock, punk, indie) is more suited for P-Bass with rounds (which I already have), and not thumping, upright sound typically associated with flats. Plus, I do not like the feel of flat strings.

I believe Hofner's are designed for flats, so would round wounds not sound good or have other problems (frett buzz, intonation, etc.)?

Any advice would be appreciated.... thanks!

Your probably not going to want to hear this but Hofners and Hofner copies sound like crap with rounds. They are thin and tinny sounding with rounds. Flats do those basses justice. Have you tried the Hofner with the flats?
Next time your at the store pick up any Beatle Bass copy with the stock rounds that are on them and you will see what I mean. Not all basses sound good with rounds, not all basses sound good with flats.

Hofner sound best with flats, or nylon strings.
They just work with that bass?
