Hello folks. The maiden voyage for me with this Zeppelin tribute band occurred Saturday 8/14 at Elsinore Casino in Lake Elsinore, CA. I joined up with this band in 2019, right after the last time the band played at this venue (summer 2019), which turned out to be the last gig for the band before the covid lockdown. Working up the Zeppelin tunes has been a dream come tru for me, as JPJ on keys and bass. Pre-lockdown we were about to start playing out in Summer of 2020. During the lockdown we lost our guitar player, who moved to Mexico. Fast forward to Summer 2021 and I finally get to play these songs in public. Excited and a bit nervous because its Zeppelin and everyone expects it to be great. New guitar player (Marco) and I drove the 50 miles down I-15 to Lake Elsinore. For pictures of a California freeway, please see various BassCliff threads. Elisinore Casino is as old as dirt, but the staff was as friendly and accommodating as you can imagine. The stage was built over the hot tub in the pool area in back of the Casino. seating for about 200 people, with all the sides and very back behind the pool when I arrive, drummer was already set up, and PA guys were hard at work brought my Genzler BA410-3 and BA12-3 which was plenty of oomph for outdoor gig (although I did also have PA support) Keys rig consists of my Korg Kronos, for all the EP, Organ, Flutes, Strings, left-hand Bass, etc. guitar player brought some for show, some for dough, I think he played thru the Marshall half stack in the middle After setup, time to wander a bit and find some food (sorry, no food pics) We had good marketing support from the Casino inside the race/sports book side of the casino a shot of our set list for the evening. one long set, no breaks. We actually played R&R for the final encore here's the basses. I played the G&L El Toro all night, mostly because I prefer it's "in your face" tone versus the more polite (but more visually correct Fender Jazz) my daughter and son-in-law were in town from Utah for the gig (and my wife's birthday on Tuesday). My daughter took the action shots. making sure the singer didn't get the words wrong (I'm sure he didn't) action I was very pleased with the result, everyone loved us, what else do you want in a gig?
Looks awesome Gary. Props to you on pulling off a tough tribute spot covering JPJ. What more could I ask for from a gig? Nothing. But @Dbaaase will bug you incessantly about the food shots..... Thanks for sharing.
I could see that, but I'd keep it fresh for when you know your audience is full of hardcore ZEP fans. If I were at a show , it would impress me that the band went that deep into the repertoire.
yes, understand that. We've also worked on, not perfected yet: In the Light (you know the keys player likes that one) Trampled Under Foot No Quarter How Many More Times Rover Night Flight Down by the Seaside Fool in the Rain (another one I like) Custard Pie Celebration Day Hey Hey What Can I Do? Living Loving Maid Your Time is Gonna Come too many good songs, it's kinda hard to get them all the proper air time.
GR8 Schtuff Gary, NICE to see the White Bull out of the closet and in the Wild where it belongs!!! Thanks for giving it such a great home.
I used to ride motorcycles very irresponsibly from Orange County to Lake Elsinore via the Ortega Highway: Ortega Highway, one of the California’s bloodiest drives Oh well, I survive a huge load of youthful stupidity. The title Stairway to Heaven invariably reminds me of this:
Way cool! Great to be playing music you love that calls on you to use bass and keys chops! (I still gotta psych myself up for Immigrant Song.)
yes, well, this is JPJ, the post-chemo version (JOOOOOKE) not wanting to offend anyone The BL does not insist I wear a wig, so I am not gonna.
