    OK,

This will be a slow build, but this is something I've been contemplating for a while cuz I got this big old slab that's been callin me for a few months.

This will be a P bass.
All Holly, except maybe the fingerboard, which will probably be ebony
Pup to be determined. Bent titanium bridge

This one is going to have frets as well, something I haven't done for a while.
I've never made a straight P either, (I've made PJ's) so I'll be somewhat out of my comfort zone.

I'm somewhat driven to make to spec as much as possible, but..........

I'm debating on which body template to use. I have a template I bought online, but I also have a slimmer version. Hmmmmmm

Traditional P bass always felt bulky to me, slimmer sounds good...

Either way I'm in. Sub'd

  4. Yeah, I'll add that I think I like the "slimmer" one too. I dunno, it just looks better.

I dont know if you're planning to stay traditional, but it could be cool to run a quad-coil pickup with a push/pull tone knob for P/Reverse P :smug:

Not quite sure what pup, but I'll be stayin traditional with the electronics.
I have a special pick guard in mind, and I'm working on that.

Because I have a titanium bridge, I'm looking for someone who will make me some titanium tuners keys.
I contacted Hipshot, they said no.

We'll see where this takes us.

    Cheers

Trust me, there are a lot of knots and cracks.

For those that get big planks like this you will understand what I'm about get into here

For every big plank, there is a way to cut the wood to maximize the yield, and then there's the way to maximize the "wow" factor of the wood

So for this P build, and this chunk of Holly, I've been looking get both.

I'm pretty sure I have found a way to get 2 "perfect halves to make a P, while at the same time leaving enough wood to make at least another instrument of nearly perfect Holly. For the lower bout of the P, there may be a small mineral streak. If I cut it that way, I should get a pretty decent 2nd instrument out of it.

EDIT: Other things I consider....is a defect going to be covered by a pup or pickguard. Maybe a defect will fall into the neck pocket region. That sort of stuff

Well it is a "tort", but I'm pretty sure it will be a tort nobody has ever seen before.

And if I told ya, it would ruin the surprise.

So in my discussions about the tort, I queried if he could do 5 ply.

Hmmm ..........wonder what my intent was ;)
