I was thinking of getting a setup for recording in future and I wanted to get some ideas. I would like to get a labtop and run a program like sound forge for recording with a recording soundcard and a mixer for the external stuff (and some mics of course). Does anyone have suggestions on what/what not to buy for this kinda thing?

You'll need something other than Sound Forge, since that program only handles two tracks at once (stereo files). Sonic Foundry also makes Vegas, which would probably suit your needs better. There are a lot of programs out there.
