I bought a Technics SA-DX950 5.1 DTS receiver two years ago, and so far so good. It sounds great for it's price point. DVDs sound incredible once you get your levels set for all of your speakers.

I am not a home-audio freak though... So take it for what it's worth.

    Cheers,
    Chris

A good place to look for information on this subject is www.hometheaterforum.com - highly recommended.

BTW, I'm a big fan of Technics/Panasonic, Sherwood, Pioneer, and Onkyo in that price range. I'd avoid Sony.
