i have become fairly fed up with the modeled bass amps/pres in my Line 6 HD ProX ... it is working fine for gtr and other things ... but i need a decent warm bass preamp to use b4 the HD ProX ...

    i think i'll sell a few pedals , then i'm looking at these 3 pedals ; ( have had several rack preamps b4 )

Two Notes Le Bass - 2 channel tube bass preamp

    Gallien-Krueger PLEX bass preamp

    ISP Technologies Beta Bass Preamp

    RMI basswitch classic boost

    i guess i'm looking for a preamp and some of the amp sound also ... i've tried/sold MXR 81 , Eden WT , , Gigigty , DG B7k , racks - Peavey tube/SS , SWR , Trace , BBE ...

also have some pedals to warm things up ... DG SuperSym , Eden Glow Plug , Way Huge Soft Pork , Dr Science the elements ...

basically i'm looking for some experienced opinions of the 3 preamps listed ... or other similar priced suggestions ... 3-400 range ...

    thanks .. !! Dave C.

The only one I have experience with is the Le Bass, but it definitely sounds awesome. Some of the users in the Le Bass thread (myself included) have been running into some reliability issues though.

i have been eying this one myself:
    providence dual bass station

^It really clean but not completely dry to point of becoming sterile. Open sounding. Boost mid frequency on at ~150hz for massive warmth.

I dont have a RMI clasic bass boost, but do have a sonic spark. I can tell you the build quality is excelent(externally AND internally). Same should go for the providence stuff, manual states s/n value of -95dbu which is good. (s/n 96db for classic boost)

just ordered a RMI Basswitch Classic ... looks/sounds like it should work for me here at home ...

i'll report back later after i get to fiddle with it ... and program new bass amp free patches in my HD ProX ..

and i think i'll run the RMI 1st in line ... then comp, tube warmer , od - HD proX w/other stuff running in it's fx loop .. we'll see ?!
  8. I really enjoyed the Tech21 VT DI for recordings so far. I've had some other boxes, but this one keeps coming back on the tracks.

I too am trying to decide between Le Bass and ISP Beta Bass. Not many video demos or reviews on ISP but lots on Le Bass including the reliability issues etc. I talked to Buck at ISP and there is no speaker/cab SIM required to run straight to mixer or powered full range speaker and there is filtering which I'm assuming a lpf built in. No effects loop or ground lift on di which Le Bass has. The demos I have seen on ISP have been very positive and looks like you can get any tone you want out of it. I wish there were more on ISP from other talkbass users who own one.

Update re: reliability, getting my Le Bass fixed was a simple process and it's been fine since.
  12. Tech21 has a Geddy Lee one coming out soon, I think.

  13. I've recently got the LR Baggs Stadium DI. I'm enjoying it quite thoroughly.

How about a DHA VT1? There is one FS here that is a great tube pre/DI. Great price also.

I too want to try a Le Bass, but I keep reading about how many people have to send them back for random repairs.
  15. Ive been using a sans amp RBI forever. I have a dg b7k ultra but prefer running the b7k ultra into the RBI more like a distortion/drive with eq than a DI. I think the b7k is too dry as a DI. If you want a really nice clean DI for bass look around for a used Avalon u5. I've seen them sell for less than $400.

I really love my Sansamp VT Bass DI
It sounds great on its own & also before my line 6 POD HD 500 when I've tried them that way.
