well, with my truck totalled (that's another thread) and the insurance payoff looming, i need another gear vehicle. i really love the new Honda Element. but, everyone i talk to about it absolutely HATES it. makes me want it even more!!! so, a poll. f
Maybe it will grow on me. But I sincerely doubt it! I have a really beauty-challenged small transport (Hyundai Atos shoe-box), and it actually does feel cool to go against the peer pressure if the car has other things going for it. Having a second nicer car or a bike in the garage back home helps if your self esteem needs help though.
I don't like it. Maybe if they got rid of the plastic panels and made most of the vehicle the same color, it might work. Definately have a lot of room for gear inside though. If it makes you happy go for it, but I would normally go after a SUV or something. jtbp
If you can, get ahold of the Consumer Reports magazine that has the review of that in it. I don't remember much from it, but i'd highly recommend checking that out before you decide so that you can learn of some of the things they didn't like. I think a major complaint was that the side doors can't be opened independently e.g. that you have to open the front to open the back-like a truck's 3rd door. Due to the no center support between the doors there's a bigger pillar that obstructs view. I'm not entirely sure if this is 100% accurate as it's been awhile since i read the review. I'd take one if it was given to me, but i'd rather get a regular SUV. My dad has a Toyota Rav4 that i like but i think it's a bit small so i'd shoot for an Explorer sized one. That's just me though. That's all
what blows me away about it, is its interior TRANSFORMER-ISH features. the front/rear seats fold down into a bed. the rear seat fold down and up along the side. there's more. its VERY utilitarian. perfect for carrying gear too!!! and with the rubbermat type floor, i don't have to worry about destroying the interior with my equipment. waterproof seat too. a perfect serial killer vehicle. i think it has some nicely implemented design features. the fact that its ugly, appeals to me too. f
thanks for the heads up CAM!!! good idea, i'll search around for the review. edmunds.com seemed favorable with it. its either the Element, or if my wife REALLY REALLY hates it, a CR-V. f
I was just thinking that I'd love to have one as an equipment hauler. I like the looks. Of course, you're talking to a guy who owns a Toyota MR2 Spyder -- a car frequently derided for a derivative, if not cartoonish design -- so you might not want to trust me on matters of taste in automobile aesthetics...
I was really aprehensive about this car, and when my sister told me she was getting one, I was pretty against it, but then she got it, and I sat down in it, and wow is all I can say. the outside may not look that great(but it does grow on you) but the interior is fabulous, there is sooooooo much leg room and head room, it's so spacious, and there are loads of neat features, like the digital line in for .mp3 players, so my sister can plug her iPod in with minimal loss of signal, it's a neat car.
I got one about three months ago. we got rid of my TT to make room for a 2nd kid. It's pretty easy to get kids in and out of, and there's lots of misc. room. I espceially liked the headroom, good 360 visibility, all time 4wd, good mileage, decent power, it's a very versitile auto. The Honda audio system sounds great too. I like Hondas because the have great service at a nearby dealer and my wife's Accord ran to about 200k miles before we traded it in.
I like the Honda Element, because it's not pretty and it's just odd looking enough to be cool.it's a very surfboard and music gear worthy car.. I dig it..I would buy one if I had the bling bling they look good in dark blue or copper color.
Opinions are like posteriors . . . everyone has one . . . but that vehicle LOOKS like one . . . If you get one, you could always sell ice cream out of the back if you play kiddie jingle tunes really loud while you drive slow on your way to gigs . . .
I thought it was a baby Hummer when I first saw one go by. I say play it first, we can't tell you what to buy!
I want one, desperately. I probably won't be getting it anytime soon though. I've spent some time in them, and I really dig the flexibility of the interior, the ruggedness of it, and the AMOUNT of it. I also think it looks COOL. Sorta that "so ugly it's cute" vibe. My initial reaction was strongly negative, but it's grown on me. Guess my beat-to-death-no-damn-air-conditioning '93 Civic HB will just have to suffice for the time being....sigh...
man i just checked out the honda website, and im in love with this vehicle, i think it might be my first car! i wand one of these colors, cant decide right now
mark, mark, mark, YOU of ALL people know i can't make a decision on my own. i defer to TB with ALL my daily decision making. f
