I am heading to Houston this weekend. Anyone know if there is a good shop for uprights there?
Do a search for "Houston" in the Basses section and you should find some info there.
My friend Elisabeth Steves just opened a double bass specialty store in Houston, the Quantum Bass Center. She has a great eye for inventory and does brilliant set-up work.
Damn, just got back yesterday!
Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. Hopefully you'll be back in town some time.
Full disclosure: I'm tentatively hired to work at the Quantum Bass Center next year, although I am not currently affiliated.
Hey, no worries! Good info as we will be back at some point to visit family.
I just discovered Quantum Bass and made my first visit yesterday. I was so excited to see a variety of German bows to try out and Paul was very patient and helpful. You'd think Houston would have lots of bass shops or at least a few, but this may be the only one. I sure hope they can make it.
Hey, thanks! We are the only double bass specialists in town.
Glad you enjoyed yourself!
Cool shop, I'd have liked to buy rosin from you guys. If it isn't outside the rules it would be great to let us know developments on stock, if you will have rentals, etc. The other violin shop seems OK, but I'd rather send my students to a dedicated bass shop.
I don't think we can do promotions on this site (aside from buying ad space), but you can keep an eye on our website for updates. The shop is still new and all those little accessories take quite a lot of capital to stock and time to collect. Rosin is pretty high on the list of things we need, but for now all we have are basses, bows, and repair work.
We also offer group technique classes on weekends, if anybody's interested in that.
Fullers Vintage Guitar.
They got plenty of DBs for you to try out.
And sorry, I didn't read the other posts.. didn't mean to steal your thunder.
I'm not seeing any on their website, just a bunch of guitars. What do they have?
TBQH I don't even play DB. I'm just local and I saw the thread.
The only one I actually remember the brand was a Stagg Electric DB. But they do have about 15 or so (IIRC) full size and 3/4 size DB. I do remember them having some hefty prices though (for a while I looked into playing DB) so I assume that they have professional level DBs.
Sorry I can't be much help.
