I already own a two string bass and I"m not too fond of it  ... I hate it when I break my A and my G!

Hey, I wrote a message to Tony Levin asking about his 3 string. He was cool enough to give a response:

    In a message dated 5/8/01 12:03:25 PM, ZuluFunk@XXXXXXwrites:
    << I remember an article about a three-string bass but I can’t find any
reference to it. Was this ever used for recording or live, and whatever may have happened to it? >>

Used it a bit, mostly for live playing. Still have it, and it sounds good!
    best wishes, tony levin

    Very cool of him!

I heard that TL's 3-string was destroyed in a fire?

Yes, I could see that... goes to show that you should never trust a rumour. Cool!

I bet someone with more cash than brains, (or someone Japanese), is going to pay a big chunk for that. It could end up in a museum or The Bass Hall of Fame, since it isn't vintage collectible.

How long before it shows up on eBay with some ridiculous reserve set?

Atlansia makes a 2-string, as well as a 1-string and a 3-string. Some very interesting design concepts from Japan. Get the catalog, it's worth a look.
