OK, I'm so bored, you can vote for your favourite bass tone of mine! P+J, Full Tone P+J, no tone Just P, no tone Just J, no tone P, no J, full tone Which is your favourite? I left the amp untouched for each.
P soloed, full tone sounds best What do you mean by tone? the treble cut pot? I think you should turn the computer recording input down; it's a bit distorted.
I feel sorry for you man. Your tone is horrible. (So maybe you should get a job next summer and save up for some decent gear? )
I dont think recording onto the computer does much justice for your sound, but if I had to pick one I guess it would be full tone on P J. But then I only listened to three so what good am I?
Hey, I record onto my computer! Neck pup, no "tone" Neck pup, full "tone" Both pups, no "tone" Both pups, full "tone" Bridge pup, no "tone" Bridge pup, full "tone" Oh well... I don't like my own tone too much either. Damn strings sound like a$$. EDIT: Neck is... there and the bridge is... there, or was it...?
Panterafan : p + J, full tone. Oysterman : Both pups, full tone. i'll record some too tonite, so you can hear the new electronics that i installed in my J last night
Yeah, I mean my treble pot. I have a P and J volume, and a tone pot(bass cut?). I only noticed the distortion on the P and full tone, that's why I turned my mic volume down and moved the mic a little further away from my Peavey. The rest are all full. I love the +20dB boost on my Soundblaster
I was just thinking, this would be a great time to clear up sound description issues. When I hear or see words like 'growly' and 'biting', I don't have a sound in my head that pops up with these words. So do you think you folks could describe my tone in your own words? Go for Oysterman's if you feel like it. P.S. I really should've used my compressor for this thread. Oh well, I wasn't that bored.
Well, I can't find punch, growl or bite. "Honky" and "dull" are the words that come to mind. Again, sorry, but that's what I hear. I would say I have a little punch with both pickups at full, and some growl with the bridge pickup soloed, possibly I would call the neck pickup "warm" (at least warmer than the bridge pickup). Nevertheless, my recording setup sure cost a LOT more than yours, and the difference in quality does not match the difference in cost! It cost too much! I need a new bass!
You might have liked my J pup with full tone, sounded similar to your bridge with no tone. I can't stand mne though, it's way too trebly for me. I should've gone direct, miking a Peavey guitar amp does not get the best results. It doesn't distort when playing normally, only when recorded through my £6 microphone. I also play with a pick, nowhere near as warm, if warm is what you dig. My sound is definitely more 'Spector' than 'Fender', if you see what I mean.
Get ? MAKE I'm working on a passive eq that should cancel out the humming, but retains ( and perhaps even enhance ) the sound.. version 0.1b is now installed in my J-bass.. still needs lots of work though..
Well, it wouldn't have been the same if I'd have said: "My sound is definitely more 'Tanglewood' than 'Fender'." would it?
You should quit insulting this guys sound. Not everybody can own the best gear on the market. I'm sure the recording doesn't do it justice. You sound fine PanteraFan. Keep experimenting with your amp and working on your technique and you will find a sound you like.
