How do i get a really smooth deep tone?

  1. Hi, I have a Fender jazz bass MIM and an ampeg b100r.

    I get mostly trebly metallish sounds tones, how do I get a really deep smooth tone like Eric Wilsons?

    neck pickup, flatwound strings.

    turn the tone knob on the bass all the way down, too bright still roll off treble at amp
     
  5. Take relman's advice.I put a set of flats on my jazz about a year ago and its been smooooooth sailing ever since

    Use the Deep switch on the B100R. Roll of the treble and high-mids, and Boost the bass. This should give you a smoother deeper sound. It won't cut very well in a band situation though. You need to boost the Low-mid to cut through.
