How do I join 2 partitions without losing data?

I have an external hard drive with two partitions. Both use HFS+ (Mac file system) and I want to join them into one without losing the data on one of the partitions. I'd make a backup on the computer, format the external into one partition but the internal hard drive does not have enough free space.

The only solution I have found so far is creating an image of the content. Hopefully the compression will fit to my local hard drive?

If you have a better solution please share?

    thanks!

  2. Well you could back everything up on CD's, but I think compressing and hoping it will fit on your internal is best.

You could also delete/compress stuff that's already on your internal to make for even more room. You might also want to download something like ccleaner, to clean up double used or not used but still registered programs. Could free up a lot of space if you haven't done it before.

Get an external hooked up to it. move the data to the external. Create the new HD. Move it back.

If you're into this kind of geeky stuff, you're probably going to have a hard time getting a date in the first place.

I thought the thread title was asking how to master a 3-way without having your girl get pissed :meh:

    Eh?
Wow! So crispygoat has a date, a girlfriend, two parties to attend to at the same time and he wants to get a threesome? Way to spend a saturday night right there.

Okay, okay. Backup the smaller partition, then delete it with the Disk Utility. If I remember correctly, you will then be able to use the full size of the disk on the remaining one.

  8. borrow an external drive from a friend, back up your data, and format your external.

    problem solved.

Actually I had a girlfriend, cheated on her with my friend's cousin (it was worth it) and a month later I was dating a prettier and smarter girl. She evens listens to Motown and plays piano. :D

    Tried partition magic?

  11. Problem solved.

Get a PC with Vista Ultimate. It comes with a partition utility.

Probably not, and as far as I know my Mac had a Partition Utility since Mac OS 10.3...

  14. Ummmmm, no. Of course not.
How can I succeed in being a smart ass if it were actually helpful. :D ;)
