How do you tune a 5 string?

Discussion in 'General Instruction [BG]' started by The Artist, Jan 31, 2004.

  1. Hi

I have a new bass of ebay coming next week, it's my first 5 string, a Peavey I don't know the series but it has two single coil pickups, natural look but stripes of mahogony and Maple, and the neck and body are one peace. :hyper:

How do I tune it? :meh:

standard 5-string tuning is - BEADG
but some people tune it EADGC because they don't like the B.

You can tune it any way you want :p

Usually it's tuned BEADG...it can be tuned EADGC too. Those are the most orthodox, but you could always do dropped tunings like ADGCF or other such things...

or drop A, AEADG. or you could tun really low and do drop G, GDADG.
or ADADG and GCGCF, DADGC, ADGCF, EADGC or a high C for CGCFA. sorry i repeated some.

  8. ok thanks guys (or girls)
I wansnt sure about the B string, couse for some reason, here in Germany, the B is an H so I got confused when trying to think about it.

    Yay!
My new bass just got here in the post! :hyper: :hyper:
(It got here just in time too, 10 minutes earlyer my G string broke on my GSR)

It's my first five string and I love it. I'm only taking a short break to type this whilst I brew some tea, then I'm going to play till I get rid of that new string sound. (well not realy, but all I'm gonna do today is play) :bassist: :hyper: :bassist:

BASS BASS BASS I LOVE BASS, BASS BASS BASS YEAH!

  9. In general there are two ways of tuning a 5-string (from thickest to thinnest):
    B-E-A-D-G
    E-A-D-G-C

Depends on your style of music and your preference.

    Good luck! :bassist:
